Cohen met ex-girlfriend at spa known for prostitution

February 5, 2010 1:58 PM | No Comments

Democratic lieutenant governor nominee Scott Lee Cohen insists that he didn’t know that the woman he met at a Glenview massage parlor in 2005 was a prostitute. But records show that at about the same time he visited the spa and met the woman, Amanda J. Eneman, the business had been the subject of numerous complaints of prostitution.

Eneman herself was arrested for prostitution at the Eden Spa in April 2005 for performing a sex act on an undercover police officer in exchange for $150. The police report quoted her telling the officer at the end of their session that prostitution was common there.

Cohen said he got only a “straight massage” at the Eden Spa, with no sexual contact. He said Eneman became his live-in girlfriend after they met there. Later, she accused him of domestic battery, but the charge was dropped after she failed to appear in court.

Details of the battery arrest, including her allegation that he held a knife to her throat, have surfaced since Cohen’s primary victory, leading to calls for him to step aside. Cohen has called on his former girlfriend to come forward and discuss their relationship publicly so that “the facts come to light.” But she has yet to do so.

While Cohen has not given a detailed timeline for his relationship with Eneman, his statements indicate that he likely met her around April 2005. Glenview police shut the spa down after the April 22 arrests, and Cohen has said that his relationship with Eneman lasted “five or six months.” The incident that led to the battery charge occurred Oct. 14, about six months after her arrest. She pleaded guilty Oct. 27 to the prostitution charge, meaning she was charged and dealing with that case while they lived together at Cohen’s Gold Coast apartment.

When the Tribune first asked Cohen about the relationship on Wednesday, Cohen said through a spokesman that he met her in a bar. But Thursday he acknowledged that he met her at Eden Spa. Cohen said Thursday that the first explanation was a misstatement by his spokesman.

Eneman had been an employee of the business since at least July 2004, according to Lake County court records from an unrelated arrest. Details from the police report of Eneman’s arrest in Glenview say the undercover police officer entered Eden Spa and asked for a “session with Mandi.” He and Amanda went into a private room. He paid her for the time, and she asked if he wanted an “exotic massage.” He said yes, and she performed a sex act, according to the police report.

Eneman, who used the name “Mandi” with Eden customers, according to court records, pleaded guilty to one count of prostitution stemming from the Glenview arrest.

Now 29, Eneman apparently still works for the same company giving massages. The business has relocated at least twice since the 2005 arrest, and is now located in Villa Park. Customers must call for directions and an address for the business, which is not marked by any signage and is located in a storefront office suite in a small commercial complex in the western suburb.

A Tribune reporter visited the massage parlor where she works on Thursday afternoon and spoke to a woman who handled appointments as well as giving massages. The reporter asked if “Mandi” or Amanda was available. The woman said she was not there at the moment, and could not give a schedule of when she would next work, saying she usually gave massages by pre-arranged appointment.

The reporter asked the worker if she knew Amanda Eneman well, and she responded, “I hope so, I’m her boss.”

At that point, the reporter gave the woman his Tribune business card and asked her to have Eneman call him. Later Thursday, a woman called the reporter’s desk and left a voice-mail message, stating: “Hi. I received your business card. You’re looking for me. I don’t know exactly what it could be that you need to find me. I would appreciate that you make no further contact to locate me. Thank you.”

Later Thursday, another reporter returned to the massage parlor and encountered two women, including one who fit Eneman’s physical description. The reporter addressed that woman as “Mandi,” and asked to talk to her. She said nothing, but another woman with her yelled, “Quick–run to the car!” and told the reporter they wanted nothing to do with the story.

Christ lents killed her papa

•January 26, 2010 • Leave a Comment

A daughter accused of fatally shooting her father in his Villa Park business will testify at her trial next month that she killed him in self-defense.

The new details were revealed Tuesday as lawyers argued some final motions in preparation for the Jan. 5 start of jury selection.

Christy Lentz, 35, may face the rest of her life in prison if she is convicted of the first-degree murder of her father, Michael, 58, more than three years ago.

Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty against the woman, who does not have a prior violent criminal history.

Her defense attorney, Richard Kayne, said Lentz will testify in her own defense that her father was a “stone-cold alcoholic,” who possessed 10 to 20 guns, and had a history of verbal and physical violence toward her.

Kayne sought to also allow jurors to hear evidence that Michael Lentz had codeine and Vicodin in his home, located just outside Winfield.

“It’s our position he was irrational and started what happened and that’s what led to his death,” Kayne said. “It certainly goes to my client’s state of mind as to what (her father) could be capable of. Certainly, his behavior was altered when he was taking the controlled substances.”

Prosecutors said the man’s autopsy results showed he was negative for both drugs, but they noted the decomposition of his body may have affected toxicology tests.

DuPage Circuit Judge John Kinsella said the defense only may argue Michael Lentz was under the influence of a prescription drug if evidence exists it influenced his behavior. The judge also is holding a Jan. 4 hearing to rule on testimony the defense wants to present regarding allegations that Michael Lentz was violent.

In a videotaped police interrogation, Christy Lentz said the gun accidentally went off after he came after her and she pushed him away. Prosecutors aren’t buying her account since the slain man was shot in the back of the head.

Authorities have not revealed a motive, but they have said Michael Lentz was upset with his daughter’s handling of his financial matters. Christy Lentz worked for him in his shop, Industrial Pneumatic Supplies at 220 W. Ridge Road.

The police probe began June 9, 2006, when authorities met with Lentz’s two daughters, Christy and Jill, who had reported their father missing. Police didn’t initially suspect foul play because Michael Lentz was known to travel between his other homes in Naples, Fla., and Wisconsin.

Detectives grew increasingly suspicious, however, each time they said Christy Lentz delayed their requests to search the Villa Park business and to review certain records. So, armed with a search warrant, detectives made an unannounced visit June 21, 2006.

Authorities detected a foul odor before even entering the building.

Once inside, they found the slain man’s remains beneath a pile of clothing in a large garbage drum. His body was wrapped in a tarp bound with electrical tape. Several air fresheners and fans were set up to conceal the odor.

Christy Lentz, who has a young daughter, has been free since July 21, 2006, about one month after her arrest, after posting the required 10 percent of a $3 million bond

Former Mentor teacher sentenced to three years in prison

PAINESVILLE — A former ninth-grade math teacher who had sexual contact with a student in her classroom before the school day began was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison.

Maggie Laughlin, 23, sobbed as she apologized for her actions before Lake County Common Pleas Judge Paul Mitrovich.

“I have always wanted to teach and I am a failure at the only thing I wanted to be good at because of choices I made,” she said

Thomas Ondrey/The Plain DealerFormer Mentor teacher Maggie Laughlin in court Wednesday.

Laughlin, a first-year teacher at Shore Junior High School in Mentor, admitted to performing oral sex on the student the last eight days of school when she pleaded guilty earlier this month to eight counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a juvenile. She claimed he initiated the relationship, which lasted about two months.

Her attorney indicated that Laughlin cooperated with police and admitted her mistakes to spare the victim, but Assistant Prosecutor Jason Wuliger said Laughlin showed no remorse and kept in contact with the victim, even asking him to lie about their relationship.

Laughlin, of Willowick, graduated in 2007 from Heidelberg College, where she was named student teacher of the year. She resigned from the district at the end of the school year, saying she planned to move to Michigan, marry her fiance and work in an all-boys school, Wuliger said.

Thomas Ondrey/The Plain DealerFormer Mentor teacher Maggie Laughlin is handcuffed after being sentenced in Lake County Common Pleas Judge Paul Mitrovich’s courtroom.

Shortly after the school board accepted her resignation, an acquaintance of the boy told school officials what happened. She was indicted June 27.

Laughlin had no prior criminal record. Background checks and references during the hiring process showed no problems, said Mentor schools spokesman Nick Carrabine.

School officials and a lawyer talk to first-year teachers about inappropriate behavior in the classroom, including what constitutes sexual battery, before the school year begins, Carrabine said.

“This year we specifically addressed Maggie’s incident and hammered it home,” he said. “We told teachers never to meet with the student one-on-one, never to meet before school starts and not to meet with a student without an administrator in the building.”

Laughlin will likely lose her teaching license.

Gail Gagne wanted by Minneapolis police

Gail Gagne wannted by Minneapolis police for criminal sexual conduct

Gail Gagne, a former teacher and coach at Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the granddaughter of wrestling legend Verne Gagne, is wanted by police on charges of sexual misconduct.  The charges stem from a police complaint filed by a 17-year-old male student who has come forward to report the sex crimes.

A warrant was issued on Wednesday for Gagne’s arrest on two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct with a 16-year-old male student during the summer of 2008.

Gagne was hired as an assistant basketball coach in November 2007 and served as a substitute teacher on a daily basis from January to September 2008.  During the summer months she served as the weight room supervisor and the 16-year-old male student had a work-study job at the same location.

She reportedly took him out to restaurants and drove him home, and on several occasions engaged in sexual conduct with him at her home.  The complaint alleges that they also had sex at the La Quinta hotel near the Mall of America on September 13-14, 2008.  Police have hotel records and credit card receipts to substantiate claims made by the young man.

The 27-year-old former employee is now reportedly working in Chicago.  Her lawyer, Earl Gray, indicated she would return shortly to enter a plea of not guilty and would be going to trial.  Eight days later, his client turned herself in to authorities on Thursday, December 10.  After posting bail, Gagne was released from Hennepin County Jail.

She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in journalism and mass communications and was a UNC Scholar Athlete in 2005.  She was hired as an assistant basketball coach at UNC for the 2005-2006 season before returning to Minnesota.

Gail is the daughter of Greg Gagne, former pro wrestler and AWA Tag Team Champion.  Her grandfather Verne Gagne is a former AWA World Heavyweight Champion.  The elder Gagne made headlines in January 2009 after he attacked a 97-year-old nursing home resident, causing his death – details and photos here.

She will remain a prisoner well beyond her adult years

In a YouTube profile, Alyssa Bustamante listed “cutting” and “killing people” as hobbies, according to AP. In this photo, thin red lines of what appear to be self-inflicted cuts are seen on her left wrist. Police say Bustamante cut 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten’s throat, stabbed and strangled her before putting her in a grave she had dug five days earlier. (Photo: Facebook Pfferson City, MO (The Weekly Vice) – Alyssa Bustamante, a 15-year-old Jefferson City teen was arrested after she murdered her 9-year-old neighbor because “she wanted to know what it felt like”.

According to Jefferson City police, Bustamante stabbed Elizabeth Olten, slashed her throat and buried her in one of two graves that she dug a week before the murder. Authorities will not elaborate what the other grave was for.

Investigators say a search was launched for the 4th-grader after she was reported missing October 21.

Police found what they are calling “written evidence” that led them to Bustamante, who showed them where Olten’s body was, according to investigators. Bustamante was promptly arrested.

When asked why she killed the little girl, Bustamante stated that she just wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone.

Bustamante’s friends and family describe her as a bright and normal teenager up until she was 13, when she tried to commit suicide. She had been receiving mental help for her depression.

Bustamante had many online profiles, some of which speak of “pain and terrors”. Bustamante has a video on YouTube where her and her brothers were shocking themselves on an electric fence. Her YouTube profile lists her favorite hobbies as “killing people” and “cutting”.

Bustamante’s profile and video have since been removed from the site.

Bustamante was placed in juvenile detention and charged with first degree murder. Prosecutors say she’ll stand trial as an adult.

Antidote to the Cold

Julie Feil
Julie Feil

In Minnesota, thirty-two-year-old Julie Feil indulged in a three-month affair with a 15-year-old boy from her English class.  She stated, quoted by Matt Bean, that she “loved him the best way I knew how.”  Her situation, which occurred in 1998, seemed almost innocent in contrast to another teacher who can hardly claim poor judgment or even immaturity as an excuse.  She could not have believed that what she was doing was justified.

Kimberly Merson
Kimberly Merson

Kimberly Merson, 24, substitute teacher and cheerleading coach at Francis Scott Key High School, went farther in these situations than most.  She partied with eight boys between the ages of 15 and 17 (one report says nine boys).  Once she had them drunk, she brought them to her house, stripped off her clothes for them and had sex.  One of the boys took the nude photos he had of her to the police, so she could hardly deny the charges.  In fact, the boy claimed she had initiated this kind of incident more than once.  Merson pled guilty to four counts of felony child sex abuse in July 2001 and received eighteen months in jail.

Another teacher who was just twenty-one and barely out of college committed similar acts.  An art teacher, she was charged with bringing seven underage males to a party, where she drank with them and had sex with two of them.  Since the charges were dropped, we won’t name her (although other news sources have done so).

What angers many people about these cases is not just the attentions of an older woman to boys but the exploitation of their positions of authority, along with their violation of the trust bestowed on them when they accept employment as teachers.  They’re expected to comport themselves as responsible adults who understand the vulnerabilities of children.  Yet even some of the older women fail to

Wendie Schweikert

Wendie Schweikert

The boy was only eleven years old and he said he was scared.  The alleged offender, Wendie A. Schweikert, was thirty-six. A fifth-grade teacher at E. B. Morse Elementary School in Laurens, South Carolina, Schweikert was arrested in February 2006 and charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.  Despite the prosecutor’s insistence that she was a danger to the community and a flight risk, according to the associated press, a judge initially set her bond at $100,000.

E. B. Morse Elementary School

E. B. Morse Elementary School

The victim’s mother, horrified over her son’s treatment, told the court that he was “terrified that the defendant will go out on bond.”  She was the one who discovered the abuse after she became suspicious of Schweikert’s overly friendly attention to her son.  She removed the boy from Scheikert’s class, but it was too late, as the alleged incidents — sexual interactions at school — had already happened.

The boy told his mother that he and the teacher had engaged in intercourse on her desk in the classroom, as well as two other acts.  On one occasion, she had allegedly fondled him when six other students were present.  The mother immediately contacted authorities.  When the police confronted Schweikert about the allegations, she confessed.  They also collected physical evidence from her desk, and she was taken into custody.

While Schweikert’s bond was later lowered to $50,000, she faced charges in another county, because she allegedly took the victim to an amusement arena, Frankie’s Fun Park, in Greenville, SC and there reportedly performed oral sex on him.  Her bond in that county was set at $100,000, and conditions of bail were house arrest and no contact with the victim.  Her case has not yet come to court.

State authorities suspended Schweikert’s teacher’s license, and since she had been employed at the school for nine years, they questioned whether there might have been other such incidents involving her but had turned up no evidence.  Schweikert was married and had previously owned a gym for training cheerleaders.

Alenna Ward was a bad British teacher

Allenna Williams Ward

Allenna Williams Ward

Allenna Williams Ward, a middles school English teacher, age 23, has been accused of having sex with five different boys, ages fourteen and fifteen, in the space of two months, starting in December 2006.  The investigation began when school officials at Bell Street Middle School in Clinton, South Carolina recovered a note, given to them by a group of students. Its author was the teacher, Allenna Williams, and she had passed the note to one of the seventh grade boys.  Since it contained sexually inappropriate messages, the principal summoned Ward to her office.

Surprisingly, Ward admitted to writing it and added that she had written others as well.  She was placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation.  Once officials started asking questions, they learned quite a lot from the students. This wasn’t just a troubling incident involving a single student, but a number of such transgressions had occurred with others.  They called the police.

Clinton’s chief of police, John Thomas, came to the school himself to look at the letters and listen to the various accounts.  It was clear to him that this was a criminal matter and he initiated his own investigation.  On February 28, 2007, Ward was arrested as well as dismissed from her school employment.  Charged with five counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree and six counts of lewd acts on a minor, she sat in a jail cell, refusing to talk and relatives got her released on a $110,000 bail.

As are most of these women, Ward was married but she nevertheless pursued sexual encounters with underage boys—allegedly five of them.  While the typical such relationship involves an older female teacher and only one of her students, in this case, there was more than one.  Supposedly, Ward had sex in a variety of places, from a park to the school where she worked, to a motel.

The school board was quick to issue a release, claiming that they screen potential employees with a criminal background check and instruct new hires on the school policies abut inappropriate behavior.  They were shocked and saddened by Ward’s behavior.

The Internet message boards were abuzz with comments about how Ward had been raised a preacher’s daughter and had presented herself as a good Christian.  People who knew her stated that they would not have predicted this kind of behavior from her.  Yet the women who keep such secrets are generally good at developing a façade so that no one discovers what they’re doing.  The boys in this case apparently were making no comment.

Ugly School bus driver busted with a teenager

That teenager must of really wanted to end his virginity                             Angry Andy

A Staunton City Schools bus driver has been arrested after police say she had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.

Paula Tomlin faces seven felony charges of indecent liberties with a child in a custodial relationship. Investigators say she and the teen had sexual relations numerous times during the past month.

Staunton Investigator Jeff Hylton says, “Both parties admitted that it was a sexually active relationship although they did maintain that they were in love and considered themselves to be boyfriend and girlfriend.”

Dr. Steven Nichols, the superintendent of Staunton schools, says he was tipped off about the relationship.

Once police started investigating, they found sexually-explicit text messages.

Nichols says, although the teen was a student at Genesis Alternative School, he took a bus to R.E. Lee High School, where he was to be taken home by Tomlin. However, that didn’t always happen.

Nichols says, “They would finish the route, she would park the bus and then they would leave in her vehicle.”

Parents of Staunton students say news of the relationship is shocking because they trust the bus drivers to bring the kids home safely.

Parent Thomas Shields says, “I coach kids around here and I can’t believe that somebody is responsible for taking care of our kids is doing something like that.”

Nichols maintains the students are and will be safe.

He says, “We are going to make every child in this system as safe as we possibly can and when someone does something such as what happens here, they are going to bear the full brunt of responsibility.”

Nichols does say Tomlin did pass a background check when she was hired, and she has no other incidents like this on her record. Tomlin resigned from her position with the school district as soon as she heard she was being investigated about the relationship.

Before Mug Shot Update

: Dec 15, 2009 A former Durand teacher pleads not guilty to charges of sexual abuse and child pornography. Jennifer Bland, 23, was arrested in October, and then again a few weeks later after more students came forward claiming they were sexually abused by the teacher. Last week, she was charged with having a pornographic picture of a minor. Bland pleaded not guilty Tuesday. The judge set her bond on this new charge to run concurrent with the others, so Bland didn’t have to post anymore money. She’s out of jail while she waits for trial. Source Oct 23, 2009 Durand Teacher Arrested A Durand Spanish teacher spends the day out of the classroom and instead in jail. Police accuse her of having inappropriate contact with four students. Jennifer Bland, 23, faces 6 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. A Winnebago County judge read the charges to her via video conference in court Thursday afternoon. Prosecutors say Bland had sexual contact with four male students between the ages of 14 and 17. The first incident allegedly happened last spring; the others in September and October. Thursday, it was business as usual at the Durand School District, despite the fact that teacher Jennifer Bland was absent. Durand Superintendent Dr. Douglas DeSchepper says, “The district will continue to preserve and protect a safe, healthy and academic environment for its students and will take any necessary steps based on the outcome of the alleged incidents.” Investigators began looking into Bland two days ago, when a call came in to Durand Police. The small department asked for back-up from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Richard Meyers says, “It’s not unusual at all for the outlying agencies to give us a call to help on what you would classify as a major investigation. There’s a lot of people to talk to. The more quickly you talk to them, the better the investigation goes.” Family sat in to support Bland during the court hearing, but wouldn’t comment on the charges. As the investigation continues, police want help from the public. State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato says, “We are asking the cooperation at this moment that those who may have information in this case that may be relevant to this investigation including parents of current and former students, that they may contact the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.” Bond is set at $200,000. Bland also can’t have contact with anyone under 18. She’s back in court November 19th.

Wendy-Rodgers.jpg
Wendy Rodgers, the lecherous Boy Scout leader of Lebanon, Illinois

It seems predatory women have turned to the Boy Scouts as a new form of dating service. First we had Courtney Sheward, caught romancing a 16-year-old in Forth Worth. Now we have Wendy Rodgers, the lecherous scout leader of Lebanon, Illinois.

Last weekend, the parents of a boy described only as their “minor son” came home from shopping to find the boy “engaging in mutual intercourse” with a woman. They immediately recognized her as 39-year-old Wendy Rodgers, leader of Boy Scout Troop 35 in O’Fallon, Illinois, in which their son is a member…

St. Clair County police received a 911 call that reported a “rape in progress.” When they arrived at the home, they found that the parents had trapped Rodgers in their son’s bedroom. She apparently lacked the scouting skills to weave a homemade rope and escape.

Rodgers has been charged with criminal sexual assault. Bond is set at $100,000.
