Borah Teacher Charged With Having Sex With Student

BOISE, IDAHO —
Boise Police arrested 40-year-old Michelle Farley for two counts of sexual battery of a child aged 16 or 17.
Prosecutors say the Borah High psychology teacher admitted to police she had sexual contact with a student, who was 17 at the time.
Ada County Deputy Prosecutor Jean Fisher says the alleged abuse happened between May 2008 and October 2008, but the boy just came forward this week.
Police believe sexual contact between Farley and the boy happened at least twice. They do not believe there are other victims, but Fisher says the case is still open.
“The investigation is ongoing as to potential other allegations, as well, at the school,” she said.
Farley, a 13 year employee of the Boise School District, is still listed as an active member of the Borah High staff. Her husband works as an administrator with the district.
Farley has two children. During a video arraignment Thursday, a magistrate judge ordered she not have any contact with children other than her own, putting her teaching career on hold.
Farley’s attorney asked the judge for a low bond. He says his client is active in the community, and unlikely to hurt anyone or take off.
“Her family is intent on providing her defense and will make sure she shows up to hearings,” Chuck Peterson said. “She has no criminal history at all and there’s no reason to beleive she would flee. She has no where to go. Her contacts are here, they are local, and there are many,”
A judge set Farley’s bond at $10,000. Peterson said she planned to bail out of jail.
If convicted, Farley could face up to life in prison.
