BOISE, IDAHO —

Boise Police arrested 40-year-old Michelle Farley for two counts of sexual battery of a child aged 16 or 17.

Prosecutors say the Borah High psychology teacher admitted to police she had sexual contact with a student, who was 17 at the time.

Ada County Deputy Prosecutor Jean Fisher says the alleged abuse happened between May 2008 and October 2008, but the boy just came forward this week.

Police believe sexual contact between Farley and the boy happened at least twice. They do not believe there are other victims, but Fisher says the case is still open.

“The investigation is ongoing as to potential other allegations, as well, at the school,” she said.

Farley, a 13 year employee of the Boise School District, is still listed as an active member of the Borah High staff. Her husband works as an administrator with the district.

Farley has two children. During a video arraignment Thursday, a magistrate judge ordered she not have any contact with children other than her own, putting her teaching career on hold.

Farley’s attorney asked the judge for a low bond. He says his client is active in the community, and unlikely to hurt anyone or take off.

“Her family is intent on providing her defense and will make sure she shows up to hearings,” Chuck Peterson said. “She has no criminal history at all and there’s no reason to beleive she would flee. She has no where to go. Her contacts are here, they are local, and there are many,”

A judge set Farley’s bond at $10,000. Peterson said she planned to bail out of jail.

If convicted, Farley could face up to life in prison.

Nicole Barnhart, 35, a social studies teacher at Ponderosa High School in Colorado, has been charged with one count of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse. She is out on $10,000 bond.
Barnhart had just completed a child neglect sentence last month for leaving her 6-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son in her car with the windows rolled up on a 90-degree day while she shopped at the mall last July.

In addition, this pillar of the education community, was relieved of her duties as cheerleading coach after inviting some of them back to her home for a game of Truth or Dare.

A married Ponderosa High School teacher is facing felony sex assault charges, accused of engaging in an ongoing affair with a troubled sophomore whom she says she wanted to help.
Nicole Barnhart, 35, has admitted to having sexual relations with the boy – one of her students – twice, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in Douglas County District Court.

The social studies teacher initially denied any wrongdoing but later broke down sobbing, saying the teen “begged” her to have sex with him, according to the affidavit.

“He’s not like those kids – he tells me he loves me and he wants to make love to me, and everything’s OK,” the document quoted Barnhart as saying. “My life has been totally ruined.”

The teacher, who has two young children, said she befriended the teen because she was worried he may have anger and alcohol problems.

Court records paint a picture of a relationship that developed over a series of off-campus lunches, at least one meeting at a housewares store and a rendezvous in a car on a deserted road.

Investigators began questioning Barnhart, the teen and others after a deputy stumbled upon the pair alone in a car near North Castle Oaks and Valley View drives in Parker on March 18.

The boy, quoted in the affidavit, repeatedly told investigators he did not want Barnhart to get into trouble. He loves her, he said, and does not consider himself a victim.

“I’m safe. I’m not scared. I’m bigger than she is,” he told investigators. “All she’s done is help me, save me.”

The boy, who previously was being treated for depression, is receiving counseling, the affidavit said, adding that authorities are concerned he may be suicidal.

The teen told investigators he has nothing left to “look forward to.”

A friend of the victim saw the boasts and told the victim, who identified Ramirez from her Facebook photo, prosecutors said. Ramirez was arrested Tuesday in the April 22 incident at the Leg Room, 7 W. Division. Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered the mother of one child held in lieu of $100,000 bail Wednesday on a charge of aggravated battery causing bodily harm.

The victim, 29, and a friend were dancing at the club when Ramirez approached them, Assistant State’s Attorney Erin Antonietti said Wednesday. Words were exchanged. Then Ramirez raised her hands toward the victim, but the woman slapped them away, Antonietti said.

Ramirez, of the 3700 block of West Division, came at the victim again and smashed a glass in her face, Antonietti said. The victim’s friend separated them and Ramirez left, Antonietti said. The victim received 32 stitches in her face. After a friend told the victim that Ramirez was discussing the incident on Facebook, the victim contacted police, Antonietti said.

Ramirez, nicknamed “Tuty,” has “Boss” tattooed on her right arm and “Flossy” on her left wrist, according to a police report.

A young attorney who received her law license last year has been charged with prostitution, officials say.

Reema Bajaj, 25, of Sycamore, pleaded not guilty Thursday in DeKalb County, according to her attorney David Camic of Aurora.

Police say they were investigating another case when they found evidence that linked Bajaj to prostitution that occurred in August 2010. The alleged incident occurred within 1,000 feet of a school, which elevates the crime from a misdemeanor to a felony, said DeKalb police Sgt. Bob Redel.

Bajaj, a 2010 graduate of the Northern Illinois University Law School, would not have been a practicing attorney at the time. According to the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission website, she was admitted to the bar in November.

Bajaj also is charged with allegedly offering to perform a sex act last month with a man for $50, DeKalb County Assistant State’s Attorney Julie Trevarthen said.

Bajaj faces two misdemeanor and one felony counts, officials said. She was charged May 31 and is free on bail after posting a $500 cash bond.

Bajaj, who reportedly grew up in the western suburbs, could not be reached for comment.

Angelica Rangel, 24, of Justice, taught for two years at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park and faces a charge of criminal sexual assault in connection with having sex with the 17-year-old boy, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Rangel was ordered held in lieu of $150,000 bail in a hearing this morning before Bridgeview Branch Court Judge Colleen McSweeney Moore, Simonton said. She was released after posting bail, authorities said.

Rangel, a Spanish teacher, had sex with the boy 8 to 10 times, mostly at her home in Justice but also once in her car in North Riverside, Simonton said. The encounters took place between Oct. 22, 2010, and March 31 of this year, she said. The boy was in her class last school year and this school year, Simonton said.

Rangel was fired from her job after the investigation into the incidents began, Simonton said.

When questioned by investigators, Rangel admitted to the relationship. Investigators found photos of Rangel and the boy together at her house on the boy’s cell phone, as well as a photo of Rangel in a bathtub with her breasts partially exposed, Simonton said.

McSweeney Moore ordered Rangel to have no contact with anyone under age 18, the victim or the victim’s family, Simonton said.

“The administration of Nazareth Academy is deeply saddened by recent events surrounding an inappropriate relationship between one of our students and a teacher,” the school said in a statement. “The teacher was immediately terminated after the administration learned of the situation. The matter is being handled by the proper law enforcement authorities.”

Police took Riojas into custody on Nov. 17. The 25-year-old taught 9th grade science at Carter-Riverside High School before resigning last month.

ABC News reports that Riojas was freed on a $20,000 bond on Monday.

According to local station WFAA, investigators said the teenage victim came forward last month because he feared he could be the father of Riojas’ unborn child. The baby’s paternity has not been established.

The student told police their encounters took place in motels around North Richland Hills and once even in a hospital bed, where the student was recovering from a football injury, reports CBS affiliate KTVT.

The warrant alleges that Riojas drove the sophomore student to “different hotels located by N.E. Mall in the Mid-Cities” for the purpose of having sexual intercourse in December and January.

Students who knew both the teacher and the alleged victim told KTVT that they noticed the pair spending an unusual amount of time together.

“In my last year of class he would walk in and talk to her a lot,” former student Micheal Webb told the station. “I never really knew anything was going on though at all.”

A police affidavit says the teacher attended the boy’s athletic events, and they would spend time together during lunch period.

The 24-year-old teacher received the sentence after she pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for the late 2008 incident involving the teen.

The case drew headlines in 2009 when the victim’s mother revealed her son was forced out of school following revelations of the assault.

School officials refused to comment on the case when questioned by reporters.

“Chicago Hope Academy doesn’t discuss school affairs in public,” principal Mike Laneve told CBS affiliate WBBM. “We do that for the protection of the children and the families.”

The then-star football player’s mother said she was given an ultimatum a few days after the sexual assault allegations came to light.

School officials told her “that this was the last straw,” recalled the player’s mother, who asked not to be named. “He wasn’t welcome back, that I could either take him out in good standing or they would expel him.”

The mother said her son can be “mouthy,” but she didn’t know of any serious discipline problems at school. She eventually sent her son to a public school in Chicago’s western suburbs.

Hopefully the substitute teacher will be a better class of human.

Prosser, Washington (The Weekly Vice) Linda Lusk, a 49-year-old high school Principal’s wife and former Prosser Mayor, has been charged after she allegedly had sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy.

According to the Prosser Police Department, Lusk performed a sexual act on the boy in late April during his lunch break from school.

Investigators say Lusk took the boy to her daughter’s bedroom where she proceeded to touch the boy’s penis and asked him to touch her breasts.

The alleged relationship began with the two sending explicit text messages to each other including a text where Lusk reportedly sent the boy a partially nude photograph of herself.

Lusk and her husband, a Prosser High School principal where the victim attends school, asked to meet with the parents of the victim on June 2 to tell them about the relationship. During the conversation, Lusk told the boy’s mother she had texted the victim and “that it had become inappropriate.”

Authorities had already received information about an alleged inappropriate relationship, because rumors had apparently circulated around the school.

When the parents questioned their son, he told them the rumors were true and that he and Lusk had sexual contact.

The Benton County Sheriff’s office took over the investigation on June 3 to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest from Lusk’s past position as mayor.

Lusk was not arrested or jailed but faces a charge of third-degree child molestation.

Lusk served one term as Prosser’s mayor, but was defeated during her re-election bid in 2007. A mother of four kids and two stepchildren, Lusk now owns a handbag boutique in Prosser called “Get a Grip.”
